A Cultural Revival!

A festival for our people & place

The St Kilda Blues Festival is committed to preserving and enhancing the long-standing tradition of live music in one of Melbourne’s most iconic cultural neighbourhoods. Our mission is to support and celebrate St Kilda’s vibrant music scene by championing the local venues that have shaped its identity, gathering hundreds of local, national, and international musicians, and engaging local trades and services to help bring our stages to life.

More than just a festival, our weekend has become a local legend that is eagerly anticipated each year because of our ethos of strengthening authentic connections within our community — creating spaces where music revitalises our lives, where our local unique culture is celebrated, and where everyone can feel a part of something fun and uplifting. By investing in our people and places, we’re helping St Kilda live up to it’s title of Victoria’s first official Live Music Precinct, and ensuring its roots & rhythm continues to resonate through generations to come.

Family run with an emphasis on authenticity

The St Kilda Blues Festival is the brainchild of passionate music enthusiasts, arts ambassadors, and hospitality experts Sonya and Gavan Breen. Each year, this family-run festival pours its heart, soul — and often its own bank account — into delivering a grassroots celebration that champions the authentic culture of St Kilda’s live music precinct.

Born from a deep love of music and community, Sonya and Gavan set out with a bold mission: to keep the music pumping in the area’s iconic venues, to spotlight the unique sounds of Melbourne and national artists, and to uplift the St Kilda community by bringing people together — in real life — to celebrate, connect, and experience the joy of live music.

Their vision extends beyond the stage, aiming to inject vital energy into the local economy and draw audiences from near and far to experience the magic of St Kilda’s legendary live music scene.

Each year we grow!

St Kilda Blues Festival is now heading towards it’s 8th year. Each year we see more and more people drawn to our grassroots style festival because it resonates deeply within our local community. It’s because of this Sonya and Gavan work tirelessly year round to bring bigger and better musical experiences. ” We are encouraged by the atmosphere each year” Gavan said, “people really have a great time with one another and the fun, happiness and appreciation for our musicians is palpable!”
