Sammy Owen Blues Band

The Sammy Owen Blues Band brings raw energy, intensity, and an all-in approach to every live show. Formed in 2011 as a rotating collective of musicians from Fitzroy’s Brunswick Street, this hard-working Melbourne band quickly became a fixture in the area, performing weekly at some of the most popular local venues.

Leading the charge is Sammy Owen, a left-handed electric guitarist and the band's principal songwriter. With his distinctive sound, Sammy and his band craft a fresh, funky, and high-energy take on contemporary blues. The band’s original songs, rich with soul and groove, set them apart as one of the most exciting acts on the Melbourne blues scene.

The Sammy Owen Blues Band made an immediate impact at their debut performance at the Echuca Winter Blues Festival in 2013, earning rave reviews and drawing attention from festival-goers. This success led to subsequent appearances at major events, including Blues at the Briars and consecutive years at the world-renowned Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival. The band returned to Echuca Winter Blues in 2014, where they were clearly a crowd favorite throughout the weekend.

In 2013, the band released their debut album, The Neighbourhood Watch... Real People, Real Stories, which quickly made its mark. The album garnered Top 10 placements on the ReverbNation Blues Charts and received airplay on Melbourne’s PBS 106.7FM and Triple R. The Sammy Owen Blues Band’s live performances have earned glowing reviews in Beat Magazine, Melbourne’s street press, and from blues fans and newcomers alike.
