The 1980s marked one of the most dynamic periods in Australian music, with St Kilda at the heart of the country’s live scene. It was in this atmosphere that Cattletruck first emerged, carving out a reputation for bold energy and unpredictable performances.
Originally formed as a semi acoustic punkabilly covers outfit, the band quickly became known across inner Melbourne for their irreverence and their habit of playing anywhere they could, invited or not. Their early notoriety included an unexpected debut on a full house Public Image Limited show at the Pier Hotel, stepping onstage with two acoustic guitars and a drummer they had never rehearsed with.
As the band evolved, Cattletruck went electric, developed their songwriting and built a strong national following. A major record deal brought wider exposure, a run of successful singles and a well received album, solidifying their place in the landscape of 80s Australian rock. The band eventually wrapped in 1988, leaving behind a legacy of high energy shows and a loyal fan base.
More than thirty years on, singer and guitarist Paul Janovskis returns to these roots, revisiting his celebrated 80s work with a powerful five piece band, joined by original Cattletruck keyboardist Philip Viggiano. The result is a fresh chapter that honours the spirit of the original lineup while bringing new life to the songs that defined the era.
