Buddy Knox Blues Band

Buddy first picked up the guitar at the age of 8, learning the basics from his mother, Vivian, who taught him three simple chords. From there, he was largely self-taught, drawing inspiration from his hero, Chuck Berry.

As Buddy recalls, “I wanted to play like Chuck. Sometimes I imagined being Chuck. Sometimes I thought I was Chuck. But I always knew I wanted to be the singer in my own band.”

At 15, Buddy left school to hit the road with his father, Roger Knox, and the Euraba band. This experience helped shape his musical skills, with his guitar playing and vocal confidence developing alongside his growing reputation. He started catching the attention of other Indigenous music legends, playing for artists such as Jimmy Little, Auriel Andrew, Col Hardy, and Vic Simms. A significant turning point came when the Warumpi Band invited him to join their ranks, and Buddy spent a decade touring with them across festivals, jails, and remote communities, honing his craft.

Throughout these years, Buddy’s passion for the blues simmered, and in 2006, he formed his own blues band. As he put it, “I haven’t got the blues… the blues have got me!”

His independent career flourished and he gained recognition as a bona fide Blues artist.
